Water Heater Thermocouple Left Hand Thread. Don't plan on trying to make one work that is the wrong thread. I started getting cold showers and noticed the water heater was turning itself off.
Do not cross thread or apply any thread sealant to the fittings. With a thing blade cutting wheel, cut the nut lengthways, file as required so it will fit over the new thermocouple. Since the igniter was still working, i knew instantly it was the thermocouple.
As long as the new copper tubing from the thermocouple is in the middle, it will keep the size of the 'left hand thread piece' the correct size so you can screw it in the water heater. Actually, when i mentioned left hand threaded thermocouple, they all assumed it was a whirlpool and responded in kind. Do not cross thread or apply any thread sealant to the fittings.

I have owned this water heater for only 5 years. Melting that thermocouple in half, making the whole water heater useless without a replaced thermocouple. Heater 1/4 male pipe thread x 9/16 left hand male thread fitting.
The old thermocouple (also everbilt) had a corroded end with a carbon ash residue. Supposedly this makes the water heater safer by only allowing the thermocouple that melts in the middle to be used. You'll also find eastman connector hoses and anode rods that attract iron and other minerals out of your water to protect your water tank.
